How to get a good Mid-Year Review

We are in the middle of the year when many companies schedule mid-year performance reviews for their people.

There can be mixed feelings about the effectiveness of these reviews but you can make them work for you by preparing well.

Treat it as an important event. Tell your manager that you are expecting to receive accurate and honest feedback on your performance and behaviours for the first half of the year. This should be enough to get them to pay attention to their own preparation.

Remember, to develop yourself you need good inputs from many sources. The mid-year review can be one of the important sources.

You need to do your part too. That involves thinking about your performance for the first half of the year, your achievements, and your challenges. It pays to document this. Not only will it help you think and reflect but you also have a ready source of information if you need to transfer it to your standard corporate forms.

Make the most of it by preparing well.
